OUR SMARTY PANTS STAFF

Our teachers are registered with MSDE and receive more education and child related training than the MD State requires.  We require that all of our teachers hold current CPR and First Aid certification.  We receive at least 20 clock hours of Early Childhood Education classes (yearly).  We are required to pass a criminal background check.  Smarty Pants will only use substitutes that are on file with the MSDE Office of Childcare.  Smarty Pants will inform parents of any substitute care prior to date, when time is allowed.

Please read about out staff below, we will be partners in your child's education!

MEET SHANNON MCKENZIE

I am the owner and executive director at Smarty Pants. I created SMARTY PANTS 25+ years ago. My vision was to provide exactly what I would look for... and figured there "should" be more people like me... to appreciate it.

I am the mother of three girls, Courtney (26), Lexi (20) and Bailey (15). I live in Ijamsville with my girls and my husband, Dennis.

I love to teach preschool children. The early child's brain is developing so fast and their skills are ripe for development. I want every child to leave Smarty Pants with a LOVE for learning! I want them to have a confidence about their abilities and take this love, confidence and desire on to HIGHER education... kindergarten, middle school, high school and EVEN college. We are building EDUCATED children... no matter the level.

MEET EMILY GALLAGHER

"I am married to Sean Sr. and have two sons, Sean Jr. (18) and Joey (16). We all live in Monrovia with our golden retriever, Sandy (11). I enjoy playing outside especially at the beach, taking long walks with my dog, reading, and spending time with my family.

I have worked with children in several different areas. I have been here at Smarty Pants for 3 years. Before coming to Smarty Pants, I was an instructor at Funfit, Inc. where I taught fitness classes to toddlers and preschoolers using balls, parachutes, hoops, and music. It was very fun.

I love working with preschoolers. I like their energy, curiosity, honesty, and loving nature. I find myself laughing a lot when I get to spend time with kids. What could be better than a job that makes me laugh!

My hope is to help provide an experience for all Smarty Pants kids that will spark their minds and create excitement about learning and school, both now and in the future."

MEET DEBBIE BOWERS

Debbie is a substitute teacher at Smarty Pants. She has the special distinction of also being a Smarty Pants "graduate." Her daughter Mei attended Smarty Pants, so Debbie knows first hand how you feel as a parent here at Smarty Pants. Debbie is warm and loving and she adores each and every child. She makes sure to see the "individual" in every student. She is lots of fun and makes learning exciting every day. She is famous for her songs and chants.

Debbie is married to a great man, Tim, and they have one daughter, Mei. She is in 7th grade this year. They live in Ijamsville.

"What I like about working at Smarty Pants is the unique closeness of Smarty Pants. I'm proud to be part of the Smarty Pants family and the great work we do! I love to get to know each student and their individual personalities. I love watching kids learn or experience something new and see the joy in their faces. I love to play and be silly and help kids learn while having fun doing it! I know the dedication Shannon has to her clients, both students and parents, and I work hard to continue the great experience that my daughter and I had here at Smarty Pants!"
