MEALS

·         Smarty Pants provides an afternoon snack.

·         You will need to pack a lunch for your child every day.

·         Please make sure your child=s name is on the lunch box/bag.

·         There is a fridge in the garage to place the lunches when you                  come in.

·         You do not need to pack a drink unless your child cannot drink              milk or water.

When packing your child=s lunch, please keep in mind that we are encouraging SELF HELP skills, especially for those that will be entering Kindergarten the following year.  They will need practice opening their own containers (including applesauce, yogurt, fruit).  They will get very little (if any) help opening these items once they enter public schools.

You may pack items that need to be warmed up.  We are happy to prepare these items for the children.

It is also important to uphold good nutritional standards.  Remember that there is a direct correlation to your child=s learning and what they eat.  If their brain is not FED (or not fed the right things) it will not work as well :)

USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program and Smarty Pants recommends:

*         (2)  FRUITS/VEGETABLES                                      2 Cup for each serving

*         (3)  GRAINS/BREAD                                               2 slice

*         (4)  MEAT/MEAT ALTERNATE

  •         meat or poultry or fish or                             1 2 ounces
  •         alternate protein product (tofu) or          1 2 ounces

        cheese or                                                            1 2 ounces

        egg or                                                                   3/4 egg

        cooked/dry beans or peas or                      3/8 cup

        peanut/other nut/seed butters or           3 Tbsp.

        nuts and/or seeds or                                      3/4 ounce

        yogurt                                                                  6 ounces

NOTES:

·         They may not be served less than the minimum quantities listed.

·         Fruit or vegetable juice must be full-strength.

·         Breads and grains must be made from whole-grain or enriched meal or flour.

·         Cereal must be whole-grain or enriched or fortified.

·         A serving consists of the edible portion of cooked lean meat or poultry or fish.

·         Nuts and seeds may meet only one-half of the total meat/meat alternate serving and must be combined with another meat/meat alternate to fulfill the lunch requirement.

·         Yogurt may be plain or flavored, unsweetened or sweetened.

·         You may put MORE then what is on this list in your child=s lunch.  But it SHOULD contain these items.

Smarty Pants may supplement, as necessary, to ensure that children are receiving nutritious, balanced meals and snacks.
